| RV Refrigeration Network Association (RVRN) GOING GREEN! July, 1 2008
GO GREEN! When you recondition, you help save our environment. Each reconditioned unit means one less sent to the landfill. Plus the chemicals used to charge these units are environmentally friendly. |
The Absorption refrigeration found it’s nitch in the RV Industry many years ago. Millions of RV’s, campers, motor homes, horse trailers, boats, remote area cabins, and the Amish communities, as well as many other areas, are using these environmentally friendly absorption refrigerators.
The chemicals used in charging absorption refrigerator systems do not harm our environment, whereas, most compression based systems that use Freon will eventually form a leak. The Freon is then vented into the atmosphere, and this is harmful to the environment.
The energy used to operate absorption refrigerators is more economical than compression refrigerators. Every time an absorption cooling unit is reconditioned, there is one less refrigerator and/or one less cooling unit in our landfills.
"My name is Randy Canter, and I have been in the RV Industry for 15 years. I am now the Director of the RVRN Association, which is made up of certified technicians across the United States who recondition the cooling units on absorption refrigerators. An RVRN reconditioned cooling unit is less costly to the consumer and carries a 5 year, 100% warranty. The alternative is the purchase of a new cooling unit, which is more costly to the consumer and only carries a 1 year, limited warranty. Due to a lack of education, millions of consumers are being misled. They are told their refrigerator cannot be repaired, they purchase a new one, and theirs, that could have been repaired, ends up in the landfills."
The RVRN Association is trying to provide education on this subject in an attempt to help save our environment. Contact Randy at rvrn1@rvrefrigeration.com or 270-703-9189, or visit our website at www.rvrefrigeration.com for more information.
| Workhorse Adds New Sales Vice President July, 1 2008
 Jim Gavaghan |
Union City, Indiana — Workhorse Custom Chassis has restructured its sales and marketing operations while appointing Jim Gavaghan to the newly created position of vice president of sales for both commercial and RV chassis.
Workhorse markets chassis for motor homes and commercial walk-in trucks. Sales and marketing have been separate operations for each industry. Effective June 16, Gavaghan is responsible for sales of both RV and commercial chassis, while current Vice President of RV Sales and Marketing Tony Monda will be responsible for marketing and product planning for both RV and commercial products.
Monda was director of marketing for both RV and commercial chassis several years ago before Workhorse split the product lines into separate sales and marketing operations.
Gavaghan comes to Workhorse with almost 20 years of sales experience in the truck industry. He has sold vehicles at the dealer, regional and national fleet levels. Most recently, he was vice president of sales at Chicago International Trucks and Affiliates, where he was responsible for the sale of International trucks through one dealership organization with eight locations. Gavaghan has also worked inside International’s sales community as a Key Market Manager and as a National Account Manager.
“After some close examination, we concluded that separating our marketing and sales leadership could better harness the distinctive talents needed for those positions,” said Workhorse President Dave Olsen. “Tony’s marketing expertise, combined with his previous experience with our commercial products, makes him an ideal choice to effectively fuse our overall product planning and marketing. We believe in providing quick-to-market products that are in tune with our customers’ needs. We expect Tony to provide excellent leadership in that regard.”
“At the same time, effectively directing sales is a full-time job with its own set of skills. Jim knows from the ground level how the manufacturer-to-customer pipeline works. We expect him to be a great resource in directing our sales agents and in building on our present sales relationships.”
“The markets Workhorse serves are volatile – We believe this new alignment will allow us to better identify and capture the unique opportunities as a result of these market changes,” concluded Olsen. “We are always looking for a better way and we are very excited about having Jim on board and the new possibilities this change creates for us.”

| Stamp Sales Benefit Nation’s Most Successful Conservation Program June, 27 2008

|
Springfield, MO - In 1934 the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) began a conservation initiative that is known today as the Federal Duck Stamp Program. This revenue stamp is produced by the United States Postal Service and is a required purchase – in addition to a state hunting license – for anyone 16 years or older who wants to hunt waterfowl in the United States, and two of its territories.
These stamps not only serve as a license, but also as a conservation tool for wetland conservation. Ninety-eight cents out of every dollar generated by the sales of Federal Duck Stamps goes directly to purchase or lease wetland habitat for protection in the National Wildlife Refuge System benefiting not only waterfowl but many non-game bird species as well. This stamp serves as an entrance pass to these National Wildlife Refuges where admission is normally charged. Additionally, the stamp is a very popular item among stamp collectors and art enthusiasts.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has partnered with Bass Pro Shops to unveil this year’s Federal Duck Stamp on the “First Day” of sale Friday, June 27.
Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorn, Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service H. Dale Hall, other USFWS officials, state and local politicians, wildlife organizations, local sportsmen’s groups, waterfowl artists, as well as art and stamp collectors will be on hand for a 10 am ceremony at Bass Pro Shops Hanover, Maryland store.
Bass Pro Shops stores in Bolingbrook, Illinois and Nashville, Tennessee will also be holding special ceremonies and 45 other Bass Pro Shops stores around the country will be selling the stamp.
The U.S. Postal Service will be on hand to earmark any collector’s first day purchase of the $15 stamp which adds to its value. Duck stamps can also be purchased after the “first day” sale at refuge visitor centers and offices, and post offices, as well as www.duckstamp.com and www.usps.com. | FRIEND OF LONE RANGER CARTOONIST FULFILLS DYING WISH IN TIME FOR CHARACTER’S 75TH ANNIVERS May, 15 2008

|
Chandler, Arizona – Before his final sunset in the Old West, Lone Ranger cartoonist Tom Gill asked his longtime friend, Tim Lasiuta, to secure a publisher for Gill’s manuscript, which offered a rare look into the comic book hero and syndicated comics. Three year’s after Gill’s death at 92, Lasiuta fulfilled his promise, getting The Misadventures of a Roving Cartoonist:The Lone Ranger's Secret Sidekick published just in time for the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Lone Ranger character.
"The opportunity to get to know Tom, one of the legends of the industry, was a gift. And to be entrusted with the publication of his book is indeed an honor," says Lasiuta.
A self-taught cartoonist who started as an office boy at the New York Daily News and worked his way up to staff artist, Tom eventually landed at Dell Comics where he went on to draw Lone Ranger comic books for 20 years, one of the longest records of any cartoonist on any comic book series. Gill created 135 of the 145 Lone Ranger comic books launched by Dell in 1948, which coincidentally also makes 2008 the 60th anniversary of the Lone Ranger comic book series.
“After having read only snippets from an advance emailing of The Misadventures of a Roving Cartoonist, I am already hooked. Having the unique opportunity to own and read the late Tom Gill's own glowing remembrances, I truly anticipate with excitement,” says cartoonist and BEETLE BAILEY assistant Bill Janocha.
The Misadventures of a Roving Cartoonist, (ISBN: 978-1-58985-021-7 hardcover/dust jacket) a Five Star Publications book, retails for $29.95 and can soon be purchased through www.BarnesandNoble.com, www.Borders.com, www.Target.com, www.Amazon.com, www.Walmart.com and www.LoneRangerCartoonist.com.
| Youth Legacy Grants Connect History and Nature May, 14 2008
Oregon - Oregon 150 and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) are teaming up to encourage the state*s youth to make history and reconnect with nature.
OPRD is accepting applications from local government agencies for one-time Youth Legacy Park grants for projects that involve Oregon youth in the state's sesquicentennial celebration, while increasing their interest in nature and the outdoors. The grants will fund at least four Oregon 150 youth legacy projects that give kids chances to commemorate the sesquicentennial with lasting contributions to local parks and communities.
Completed applications are due July 11. The grants will be awarded in September 2008. *The sesquicentennial gives us a great chance to connect kids with both the state's heritage and outdoor offerings,* said OPRD Director Tim Wood. *The grants present ways to pass on the state's outdoor legacy through our youth. *
Wood cited a recent trend in research for the State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) that shows fewer children engaged in outdoor recreation. The finding, he noted, correlates with other research showing climbing rates in childhood obesity and physical inactivity among youth.
Examples of eligible projects include developing and restoring natural areas, outdoor exhibit or interpretive areas, campgrounds, picnic facilities, trails and trailheads, outdoor swimming sites, boating accommodations and winter sports facilities. Ideally, said OPRD Grants Division manager Wayne Rawlins, the proposals will involve youth in the projects *from beginning to end.* Outdoor classroom, back-to-nature and how-to camping programs with a sesquicentennial relationship are other proposals that will be considered.
OPRD's Local Government Advisory Committee, which will review and recommend the projects to be funded, will not consider proposals involving indoor recreation facilities, historic buildings or park maintenance structures.
More information about the grants and an application form are available online at http://egov.oregon.gov/OPRD/GRANTS/index.shtml, or by calling 503-986-0708. Information about Oregon 150 and the sesquicentennial is on the web at www.oregon150.org.

| All KOAs Now On KampSight System May, 7 2008

|
Industry-Leading Software a Boon To Campground Management
Billings, Montana - The world's premiere computerized campground operating system is now standard equipment at every Kampgrounds of America park in North America. Although the KampSight system has been available to KOA owners since 2000, not all KOAs had adopted the technology. KOA President and Chief Operating Officer Shane Ott set a target of May 1, 2008 for total adoption for the system, and KOA franchisees stepped up to the challenge, bringing the proper hardware and training to their campgrounds to "close the loop" and bring 100 percent of the KOA system to KampSight. KOA now has nearly 460 campgrounds across North America.
"It became obvious last fall that we had to close the loop and get 100 percent participation on KampSight by all KOA campgrounds," said Ott. "We've had to say goodbye to some campgrounds that just weren't willing to make the change. KampSight is now an integral part of being a KOA, and it allows us to continue to set the pace for the rest of the camping industry. "
Seven campgrounds chose not to convert to KampSight and have left the KOA system in the past few months. But, 11 existing KOA campgrounds have made the switch to KampSight in 2008, along with 12 new campgrounds just added to the KOA system.
The benefits of having every KOA on KampSight are huge, including: * All KOA campers will now have the same, expedited KampSight-driven check-in experience at every KOA because front desk staff will be able to know who each camper is and what their camping preferences are.
* Full utilization of KOA's new Value Kard Rewards program. With KampSight, campgrounds are able to assign Value Kard Rewards points in a timely manner; offer Value Kard Rewards certificates that can be validated at the time of check in; verify that a Value Kard Rewards card is valid; and offer Value Kard Reward cards for sale online.
* All KOA campgrounds are now networked to take advantage of Kampground-to-Kampground reservations and Realtime Internet reservations, which gives campers accurate online rate quotes and completes the credit card transaction for reservations.
* KampSight allows for more accurate data from KOA's annual Kamper Satisfaction Survey, which provides campground owners with scientifically collected information from their own campers.
* KOA owners will not only get up-to-the-minute reports on the performance of their campground, but also more accurate reports on the performance of the entire KOA system.
For more on KOA, visit KOA at www.koa.com.

| Equine Motorcoach Arrives in its Kentucky Home Just in Time for the Derby! May, 3 2008

|
Louisville, Kentucky - The first-ever motorized RV and all-in-one horse transport arrived at its home in the United States in Louisville, Kentucky just in time for the Kentucky Derby. Founded by co-owners Tom and Carolyn Stinnett and Julie Calzone, Equine Motorcoach caters to very active horse show participants while supporting equestrian efforts nationally and internationally.
"From the grounds of Windsor Castle to Louisville, Kentucky, we did it!" exclaimed Carolyn Stinnett, Equine Motorcoach principal. Stinnett traveled to the Royal Windsor Horse Show in England in 2006 with her friend, Julie Calzone. The women discovered this new type of horse and people transport at the show and along with Carolyn's husband, Tom, created a manufacturing company to produce their Equine Motorcoach.
The trio combined their expertise in the RV and horse industry with a high quality European product that was refined by Lehel Coach Builders in England. Tom and Carolyn own Stinnett RV, one of the nation's largest independent RV dealers, which is located in the Louisville area. Tom is the Co-Chair of the GoRVing national promotional campaign and he sits on the Board of Directors of the RVDA, the United States' RV dealers association and was inducted in the RV Hall of Fame.
Julie Calzone owns a national advertising and public relations firm, Calzone & Associates. She competes and breeds dressage horses, hunter/jumpers and thoroughbred racehorses. Through Calzone Sporthorse, she is marketing cutting and reining horses in Europe.
Equine Motorcoach owners spent nearly a year working with several manufacturers researching and engineering the right chassis to support a new type of horse transport vehicle for the United States. The new Equine Motorcoach combines the comfort and amenities of a top-of-the line RV with accommodations for horse transport and tack and supplies storage.
Kentuckiana's Premier Truck Center worked with Tom Stinnett of Tom Stinnett RV Freedom Center and Mark Lee of Lehel Coachbuilders to engineer a truck chassis that met with the U.S. Federal Highway standards relating to construction, brakes, crash safety and emissions.
Equine Motorcoach is built in Europe on the custom chassis specifically engineered by Volvo Trucks North America. Coaches are available in a 4-6 horse configuration. A 2-3 horse configuration on a smaller truck is due by the end of 2008. Every Equine Motorcoach is built to the customer's specifications including exterior finishes and interior amenities.
"It drives like a dream car," said Tom Stinnett. "The luxury of the interior is matched by the luxury of the ride."
What's in it for the horse? The benefit for the horse is a ride as comfortable as human traveling in a car. They are less stressed and use a minimum of energy while traveling, especially when compared to conventional towed trailers (tag-a-long and/or gooseneck).
The flooring and the ventilation systems maximize the horse's comfort while traveling. When combined with the "air cushion" ride, there's no better way for the horse to travel, especially for long distances.
A groom can travel in an upper bunk in the horse transport section, so the horses can be monitored constantly. Cameras in the horse transport area allow the driver and passengers to monitor the horses without disturbing them.
The horses can be accessed from the RV portion of the Coach, so a visual check is possible. Running red light interior lighting ensures that the horses can see easily, but will allow them to rest easier when traveling.
There are several access opportunities to the horses while they are in transport or stationery in the trailer. That means that the horses can be tended to easily while traveling - blankets, water, feed, hay, etc. The ramp system and stalls allow for safe, easy and comfortable loading. The sides and panels of the horse transport area are built so that if a horse kicks, they cannot penetrate it. The type of materials and construction used in the paneling cushions the kicks. There is plenty of height and width so the horse travels in comfort. Translucent, soft vinyl panels hang from the stall partitions to ensure a safer separation while at the same time allowing the horse to move its legs sideways for balance. The interior provides for a quiet ride, shielding the horse for exterior road noises that can be stressful. | Volunteers needed for all-Escapees Habitat build! April, 5 2008

|
Three years ago, a team of Escapees volunteers built an all-Escapees Habitat house in Polk County (home of the Escapees RV Club), Texas. And it is happening again, beginning on April 28 and continuing daily through May 16. Wayne Roberts #12463 will be the construction superintendent for the build. About 20 volunteers (men and women) are needed to build the house in a new Habitat subdivision in Livingston, TX. One day, May 6, will be an official Women Build day, and the men will be welcome to furnish lunch, bring ice water, and provide encouragement to the all-female team of volunteers. Parking for RVers will be provided at a reduced rate at Rainbow's End, about 7 miles from the build.
To sign up, e-mail Ray Gearing #12742 (gearing@livingston.net) or call Ray at (936) 327-2752. Reduced-rate parking will be provided for the first 10 rigs signed up.
Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.
Habitat has built more than 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.
Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor — sweat equity — into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

| Lon Larson Elected Chairman of RV/MH Hall of Fame April, 4 2008
Lon Larson, chairman, RV/MH Hall of Fame and general manager, Oliver Technologies, Inc. |
New Chairman Challenges Industry to be Part of their Heritage through Contributions and Service
Future Recreation Vehicle (RV) and Manufactured Housing (MH) generations will thank this generation for its leadership, courage, vision and generosity that came together to create a new monument honoring the RV/MH industries' rich heritage, according to Lon Larson, newly elected chairman of the RV/MH Hall of Fame board of directors.
Larson was referring to the new 80,000-square-foot RV/MH Hall of Fame, Museum, Library, Conference Center and the national headquarters for the RV/MH Heritage Foundation which was unveiled last August to rave reviews from both industry veterans and newcomers.
"However, our work isn't done," Larson said. "Our vision is to continue building the Hall of Fame by adding a show pavilion, a manufactured housing hall, a manufactured housing village and to enlarge the conference center to accommodate 1,000 people.
“I challenge all companies and individuals that participate in and earn a living from the RV and MH industries to help us continue to build our industries’ heritage and fulfill the dream.”
Larson, general manager, Oliver Technologies, Inc. (OTI), joined the RV/MH Hall of Fame board of directors in 2001, and prior to being elected chairman, he served as vice chairman since 2006.
"The last few years of the RV/MH Hall of Fame's history have been phenomenal culminating in the completion of our new facility. I'm proud to have served under the extraordinary leadership by my predecessors James McGee, Modular 1, and Dave Altman, Altman's Winnebago, and seen the vision of Carl Ehry, our president, develop from a dream into reality.
"We are all saddened by Dave Altman's passing and we ask that everyone to continue remembering Marla and the family in their prayers. Dave's leadership conveyed boundless enthusiasm and unselfish service that I will strive to emulate."
A native of Chicago, Larson moved to California in 1970 and joined OTI in 1978 to work on manufactured housing earthquake bracing and foundations. When OTI went national in 1994 with new foundation products for the manufactured housing industry, Larson was responsible for marketing and code approvals nationwide.
Recently, OTI started manufacturing Oliver Camping Trailers, and Larson has been involved with the launch of this new product in the RV industry.
In addition to his service to the RV/MH Hall of Fame Larson also serves with the Manufactured Housing Institute on its board of directors and as vice chairman of the suppliers division. He also serves on the board of directors of CMHI and on the Governing Council for the supply division with FMHA. On behalf of OTI, he works closely with state associations across America. | Nevada Magazine wins first place in 2008 National Headliner Awards March, 29 2008
Nevada Magazine's website wins first place in 2008 National Headliner Awards |
CARSON CITY, Nevada - Nevada Magazine’s Web site has earned first place in the 2008 National Headliner Awards, one of the oldest and largest annual contests recognizing journalistic merit in the communications industry. The Press Club of Atlantic City gave www.NevadaMagazine.com top billing in the “Magazine Affiliated Online Journalism” division, calling the site “an in-depth portal giving a pictorial sense of place and possibilities with an online magazine flair.”
The award is the first for Nevada Magazine’s Web site, which was redesigned in August 2007 by Noble Studios, a Carson City, Nev.,-based Web development company. The goal of the updated site is to portray a modern lifestyle publication brand, while staying true to the travel and culture stories that have been the benchmark of Nevada Magazine.
“This was a tremendous accomplishment for all those involved in the design and development process, especially after finding out that www.CNNMoney.com and www.Newsweek.com were second and third,” said Jarrod Lopiccolo, business director for Noble Studios.
A division of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Nevada Magazine has been telling the Silver State’s story since 1936—nearly as long as the prestigious National Headliner Awards have been in existence. The Press Club of Atlantic City founded the contest in 1934 and gave out its first award in 1935, a year before Nevada Magazine, then known as Nevada Highways and Parks, debuted.
The accomplishment is especially rewarding for a magazine that introduced a redesign in print and online in 2007.
“It’s great to see that the hard work of our staff, and the company that we worked with to produce an award-winning product, has been recognized by a credible journalism foundation such as the Press Club of Atlantic City,” said Matthew B. Brown, editor of Nevada Magazine. “We hope this award will generate more interest in our Web site and our magazine in general. We are determined to keep up with cutting-edge journalism trends and still maintain a respect for the history of our 72-year-old publication.”
Nevada Magazine, the official state publication, highlights the Silver State’s attractions, destinations, dining, culture, history, events, shows, and more. The Web site features the same high-quality images print readers are accustomed to, Web Extras (stories not available in print), other online bonus material, and the most complete guide to Nevada events and shows.
